

Women in Backgammon
The current backgammon giants list (2007-9) contains only one woman, Katja Spillum of Norway at number 41. But Japan's national backgammon champion, Nakamura Junko, is a woman, and so is the first US Backgammon Open champion, Carol Joy Cole, and the number of women who play backgammon, whether online or in real life backgammon tournaments grow all the time. Thus the chances that there would be a woman backgammon player or more in the 2009 list or that of 2011 the earliest grow respectively.
But until then, Masters of Backgammon is happy to introduce the most notable women in backgammon today and follow them in the still men dominated backgammon tournaments with articles, photos and videos. At the same opportunity, we will try to get answers to questions such as why there are less women backgammon players then men, how to encourage more women to play backgammon professionally, are ladies backgammon tournament necessary, and what the future holds for women in backgammon (and how online backgammon got to do with it).
