Las Vegas Open Backgammon Tournament

The Las Vegas Open is one of the biggest backgammon tournaments in the US. Organized by the Nevada Backgammon Association, the tourney is part of the American Backgammon Tour (ABT), the leading backgammon promoter across North America and directed by Howard Markowitz, a celebrated backgammon master himself.

The Las Vegas Open backgammon tournament is usually four of five days long and it consists of several tournaments, side events and jackpots. The main event, is obviously the Las Vegas Open championship, divided into three divisions (Championship, Intermediate, and Beginners), with each division consists of three flights (Main, Consolation and the Last Chance).

The American Doubles Backgammon Tournament also takes part during the Las Vegas Open backgammon tournament, granting its two-player's team event with the prestigious national title. The same team of backgammon pros that runs the Las Vegas Open also manages the Nevada State Backgammon Tournament, which is followed by the World Doubles Tournament.

Naturally, the Las Vegas Open does not attract only American backgammon masters. More than 200 backgammon players attended the last Las Vegas Open for now, in November 2008, coming from North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Australia. Being one of the closing events of every ABT year, Las Vegas Open has a great impact on the naming of the American Backgammon Tour outstanding player, the one who had accumulated the greater number of points during the ending year's backgammon events.
