European Backgammon Tour - EBGT
The European Backgammon Tour (EBGT) is one of the richest and longest running tours in today's backgammon. Launched by the World Backgammon Association (WBA) in 2007, the European Backgammon Tour will be marking its fifth anniversary in 2011 in an eight-stop tour and a collaboration with the online backgammon giant Play65.
EBGT Past Season
In its beginning, the European Backgammon Tour has supported established backgammon tournaments in the European continent such as the Nordic Open Backgammon Tournament and the City of Venice International Backgammon Tournament, both celebrated their 19th anniversary in 2007. At the same time, the EBGT has strengthened new local events such as the Georgian Open and the Portuguese Open, by adjoining them to the European Backgammon Tour.
The European Backgammon Tour had succeeded in drawing the biggest backgammon masters to its stops, thanks to its highly organized events and large prize pools. In the EBGT second season giants of backgammon have already mingled with local players in main events, doubles competitions and exhibition matches; in the third season, the WBA has collaborated with Turkey local backgammon federation ISTAVDER for the founding of the Cyprus Open, and in EBGT's fourth season, the number of participants grew to over 200 players.
Play65/EBGT Season
European Backgammon Tour fifth season, Play65/EBGT season, is planned to break the boundaries between Europe and other continents, and between tournaments and online backgammon. Play65 will be the exclusive online satellite provider of the tour, which will include, for the first time, a stop in the United States – the Golden Gate Open, in collaboration with the American Backgammon Tour (ABT). The tour stops in Europe will be focusing on traditional backgammon communities such as Turkey, Cyprus and Georgia, on top of tour stops in Spain, France and Portugal. Offline satellites will take place in Turkey, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, under the direction of the local backgammon associations. Also for the first time, finalists in the online satellites for the tour's Grand Finale will be ranked in WBA's Point Race.
