European Backgammon Championships

The European Backgammon Championships is a relatively low key event, takes place on a yearly basis in Velden, Austria for more than 20 years. The European Backgammon Championships is organized and sanctioned by the Worldwide Backgammon Federation (WBF), a backgammon association that takes pride in its two decades of "transparency and correctness", with the support of the Austrian Backgammon Association (ABA).

The European Backgammon Championships, which traditionally occurs during spring time and stretches for four days, consists of number of backgammon tournaments: European Double Consulting Championship, the Velden Backgammon Open and the main event, the European Backgammon Championship, designed to name the backgammon champion of Europe. That, on top of other side events such as a ladies tournament, the Sperti Trophy, jackpots and super-jackpots, plus one point tournament also known as the president's tournaments.

The European Backgammon Championships is one of the major events organized by the Worldwide Backgammon Federation, the association run since 1986 by Alberto De Pra, a backgammon player by himself. Other WBF tournaments include the Caribbean Backgammon Open in the Netherland Antilles, Nice Backgammon Open at the Casino Ruhl in the French Riviera, etc. WBF also has a standardized set of backgammon tournament rules and regulations that apply on the events organized by the federation.
