Backgammon Tournaments – where the Backgammon Masters Meet

What do the masters of backgammon do when they are not in front of the computer analyzing backgammon games? They travel worldwide to exotic locations such as the Monte Carlo or Helsingør to play backgammon tournaments, where they compete for the cash prize and the desirable title and hang out with their fellow backgammon masters.

The most important international backgammon tournaments today include the veteran Monte Carlo World Backgammon Championship and the young World Series of Backgammon championship, usually held conveniently one after another in Monaco and the French Riviera around July (but in 2009, for the first time, the World Series of Backgammon championship will take place after the UK Masters backgammon tournament on October). But even national and local events such as the Nordic Open, Japan Open and the Las Vegas Open draw the top backgammon players from all over the world.
