Matvey "Falafel" Natanzon - Israel
Backgammon Tournaments Bridesmaid
08/08/2009
#1 Giant of Backgammon Matvey "Falafel" Natanzon of Israel is having difficulties regaining the first place position ever since championing the Paris Master and the Portuguese Backgammon Open of 2008. Looking at the bright side, he finished second in plenty of international backgammon tournaments, more recently at the 3rd Georgian Backgammon Open, where he lost the first place to Kakhaber Natchkebia of Georgia, and the WSOB Cannes, won by Najib Salamzy of Afghanistan/Germany.
Matvey "Falafel" Natanzon did win the first place at the 4th Davis Doubles championship, the 4-team tournament held as part of the EGBT Gogi Bukia Memorial Georgian Open, along with American backgammon player Jacob Rice, known as "Stick Rice" or simply "Stick". He had also triumphed the consolation division at the New York Metropolitan Backgammon Open, held at the beginning of 2009 in New Jersey as part of the American Backgammon Tour. "Winning is not everything, but losing sucks", he appropriately summarized the subject after losing the WSOB Cannes finals.
