Gus Hansen to Host Backgammon Poker Tournament in WSOB 2009
02/07/2009
Dane poker and backgammon master Gus Hansen will be hosting a dual discipline tournament as part of the WSOB Cannes event, the opening stop of the World Series of Backgammon Season III, scheduled to July 22-26, 2009. Hansen will continue to serve as the commenter of the WSOB championship, along with British backgammon pro John Clark, as in the pervious seasons of the backgammon tour.
The planned poker and backgammon championship is one of the novelties to be introduced at the third season of the popular backgammon tour by its founders, Andy Bell and Eric Guedj. Others promised innovations include new backgammon software, which would offer competitive rakes, exclusive satellites to the WSOB upcoming events (the European Championships in Prague, and UK Masters and WSOB Championship in London), and live, commented and illuminated coverage of the WSOB games.
In the meantime, in the parallel poker universe, Gus Hansen has finished 9th at the World Series of Poker $50,000 HORSE 49th event, held on Wednesday, July 1st, winning sum of $123,895 in cash. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the most influential tour in the poker world. WSOP's main event draws thousands of competitors every year since the big poker boom of the early 2000s, and the TV broadcast of the final table gains surprisingly very high rating.
