Dane backgammon master and poker star Gus Hansen has mentioned his plan to organize a bug backgammon event in a chat session at the online poker room FullTitlPoker, where he is one of the team members.

Hansen has revealed this information in respond to a question about the money in backgammon comparing to the money in poker. Hansen's answer, admitting that the money prizes offered in backgammon tournaments are significantly smaller than their poker equivalents, may imply on the direction planned for the backgammon tourney – big in the sense of big money. The last time a big money backgammon tournament took place was in 2007, when million dollar backgammon event held at the Bahamas, offering $1 million guaranteed prize and charging $10,000 buy-ins.

At the same chat session, Hansen has confessed that his favorite player to win the World Series of Poker main event in November is Phil Ivey. Loyal to his reputation as someone who puts his money where his mouth his, he had announced supporting this appreciation with a $20,000 wager at 55:1 odds. Gus Hansen, who has been a tennis champion in his youth, has recently lost 1 million euro bet he placed on Rafael Nadal at the Roland Garros 2009.
